Hi! I’m Shannon. I write things.
Books, short stories, articles. Also grocery lists. (But do any of us actually use paper and pen for grocery lists these days? Does it count as writing if I’m only using my thumbs? At what point does the writing become to-do listing or social media post captioning or — yep, no, stopping now.)
Here’s what I look like, in case you wanted to know.
And here I am being whimsical.
Personally, I’m partial to the second one, but that’s just me. Get it? Just me?
I’m sorry, please don’t leave. I’ll get to the good stuff.
I write because it’s the best (and only) way I know to turn the stuff that bubbles between my ears into something tangible and, dare I say, helpful.
I write professionally. It’s my job. And I like what I do because it gives me an opportunity to guide others. I write about investing and credit cards and personal finance for NerdWallet Canada.
But I also write privately. Personally? For myself, I mean. Most of my personal work revolves around mental health. In fact, I published a book in 2019 on the very topic — a collection of creative non-fiction called The Guest House.
Whether you bump into my words on a screen or on paper, I hope they help. And in the interim, I’ll be here.
With keyboard and pen.
Shannon
